Apple Chips

This is a great recipe to try if you’re looking for a healthy snack, and if you have some apples and time on your hands. These chips take 3 – 4 hours to bake at a really low temperature. They’re incredibly tasty when they’re done, and if you can slice them very thinly on a mandoline, they’ll have the consistency of potato chips. Nice and crispy. The only problem is, they’ll be eaten in minutes. My boys demolished these in no time.

I made two different flavors, maple and cinnamon. I loved both. Our boys preferred the cinnamon.

Apple Chips

2 or 3 apples
maple syrup
cinnamon sugar (ratio: 1 tablespoon sugar mixed with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, or to taste)

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F. Wash apples and core them. I used an apple corer. Slice the apples very thinly on a mandoline. Spread them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Don’t let the apples overlap. If you’re making maple apple chips, brush each of the apples with maple syrup using a pastry brush. If you’re making cinnamon apple chips, dust each apple slice with some cinnamon sugar.

Bake the apples for an hour. After an hour, loosen the apples from the parchment paper and return to the oven. Bake for another 2 – 3 hours until the apples are crispy. They will become a little more crisp as they cool. If you are using multiple cookie sheets, make sure to rotate the cookie sheets each hour or so.

Store in an airtight container if they last that long.
