Halloween Treats

We have an annual Halloween party for our boys and these are the treats that I made for the party this year. Both are very easy to make and rely on recipes that I have posted before.

For the Spiderweb Cupcakes, I made Egg-Free Chocolate Cupcakes topped with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. The spiderwebs were created by melting a bag of black candy melts, and piping the spiderwebs onto parchment paper using a pastry bag. If you don’t have a pastry bag, you can put the melted chocolate into a plastic sandwich bag (or Ziploc bag), cut a small hole in the corner of the bag and pipe away! Once the webs are all made, put them into the freezer. This will allow them to firm-up and will cause them to slide right off the parchment paper for easy removal.

For the Tarantula Cookies, I used this chocolate cookie recipe as a base. I took each ball of dough and put 8 pretzel sticks into it, four on each side. I broke my pretzel sticks in half before I used them. I followed the recipe’s directions for baking the cookies. When they were baked and cooled, I melted some milk chocolate chips (any kind will do. I bet semi-sweet chips are delicious here as well. I used a pastry brush and brushed each cookie with melted chocolate. I then added two mini-M&Ms for eyes and dipped each cookie in a bowl of chocolate sprinkles(jimmies). Voila! Tarantula cookies.

Both were a huge hit with the kids.
