Our side of the family had gotten out of the “cake for birthday” routine over the years instead opting for dinner and dessert at a local restaurant, but at the urging of my 93 year old aunt, via a couple of texts from her iPhone, I went ahead and said I would make an honest to goodness homemade cake. Ya gotta give props to a 93 year old who uses a smart phone right?! After searching for just the right cake, I decided on this one. I made it almost exactly as the recipe said. The only difference is that I used a tube pan instead of a bundt pan only because I felt the cake would be easier to get out of the tube type. I used finely chopped walnuts and for the chocolate I chose a 3.5 ounce Godiva Dark Chocolate bar which I also chopped pretty finely. The cake was a hit. So moist and decadent. It was served with freshly brewed coffee and of course a raucous round of the perennial birthday hit, Happy Birthday To You! Thanks so much for posting it! Blessings and peace to you.

Thanks Brandy. I’ll give the cake a try using either squash or zucchini. That sounds great.

I sometimes substitute the bananas for squash or zuchinni and omit the caramel sauce. It’s always delicious. Thank you so much for sharing.

He loved it, so did I. He asked me to take a large portion of the leftover cake to work because he would have eaten the whole thing if I left it at home. 🙂 It was a hit there too…so moist and delicious!

It looks amazing and I agree with you on the nutmeg thing.
